Okay this song is just sick > : D

Really sweet synth work man. Nice and sharp. I really like the voice samples used in this one.

The beat is sweet too, reminded me a lot of like the quake 3 arena soundtrack at some parts. which was designed by trent reznor, so take that as a great complement. :D

Although my only complaint is the length is a bit on the short side, but on the flip side, its short and its sweet. so i can't bitch. Haha.

good job man, keep making music for reelz.

shesmackshard responds:

thank you! I kept it short because of what spyrolivia was saying, it was getting very repetitive. as much as I love the genre, trance is just naturally repetitive ESPECIALLY without vocals...

thanks for the review man!

Solid tune, Funky name.

I would have totally imagined this song different if it wasn't for the title haha.

I can imagine this song being used in one of the "house of the dead" video games. Which is actually a pretty good thing, i could see it in a strange video arcade way.

As far as the jam goes its tight man, i like the steady flow and the good melody work. The beat is a little repetitive, but either way i still dug on it.

My only advice would probably just mix it up a little more, i felt like it kind of ended on the same note it started with never having a definitive climax or breakdown. The song keeps my energy up, but it slowly dies out as the jam just keeps going and going without ever building back up or changing pace.

Keep making music dude, i love this shit, Much respect.

Ugilitiozavrus responds:

Well, this one was supposed to "keep energy up and slowly die".

Anyway, thanks for your solid review.

Charming : ) A taste of ivory

This piano is in very classical taste, and I love it.

The synths are a TAD cheesy around 1:10.. Reminds me of castlevania for some reason, but that isn't a bad thing.

The drums REALLY tie everything in for sure, and that was my favorite part. Although they almost stop too soon and often. So I'd be getting into the groove and they'd drop out.

But thats what kind of gives this song its RPG-like crafty drum n' bass feel.
It sounds to me like you destroyed a beautiful chopin piece.

*added you to favorite artists for this track

John-Gaden responds:

I rather enjoy destroying beautiful classical things. =D

Got my blood pumping

Great song man!

I really loved the overall structure you have going on it, and the arpeggiated synths around the breakdown at 1:30, Kept it really hypnotic and fresh.

I think the mastering could be a bit balanced as some of the synths I think are a little too loud in some parts. maybe try to have a more diverse build, add a new chorus or melody. it felt like it was a little too simple and over too quick.

But its amazing so far, so despite the short length i still love it man, Keep making music. A+

RenoakRhythm responds:

ya definitely over too quick. After the initial build its rather repetative and boring for a full song, I didn't notice the synths being too loud, but i'll go back and check, maybe do some better EQing, or maybe its mastering... we'll see.

Thanks for the review nostromer.... I'll check out one of your songs.

Don't use copyrighted material.

Don't think anyone wouldn't notice that the entire melody of this song is:

"The theme of laura (reprise)"
From the Silent Hill 2 original soundtrack
composed by Akira Yamaoka in 2001.

K london - You have good vocals man, Don't waste them on unoriginal work.

I'll give you +1 point for the vocals and +1 for the shabby repetitive drums.

2/10

-Write your own stuff, A flash animator could have used this not knowing it was previously copyrighted and gotten in big trouble because of it.

Chista responds:

Err, it's called sampled for the beat. >.< completely legit.
Take it up with Gorbanic.

Gotta mix up the presets man.

There is some good things about this track, and there is some bad.

First off - All those presets... and chopper / arpeggiator presets... Are THEY most overused patterns known to the internet.

You gotta mix it up man, You have some really good layering here, the levels were good, and even the mastering sounded good. But I just can't get past those pre-written synth lines. Jump in the piano roll and shift them about until you create something of your own.

Trust me, for i made the same mistake when learning FL studio. You may not think so at first, but everyone who has ever touched FL has used those same synth lines at one point or other, :p.

Although I can feel your effort in creating this, and I do respect that.
All though I like the some what 8-bit feel of the bass / snare sound. And it reminded me of the game "Kirby's dream land" on the second level. So thats a good thing, because I'm sure someone who makes flash games could put this too good use.

But as actual music to stand alone, It fails due to lack of originality, But still redeems a bit with the overall structure as a whole.

HarvestThrone responds:

Thanks for the review! Yeah I wasn't actually intending on writing this haha. It's just something I found in FL and threw it together in a couple of minutes. Though, I've found that there are arpeggiators that I don't mind, so I probably will end up going through them and re-writing them. I did change 2 of the chords for the preset I used for the guitar, and added a simple melody over that. But yes, I agree. I can do better. You should check out my other songs if you haven't already. Some of them are kind of progressive metal, and others are industrial-ish. For the song Condemnation however, you will have to go to my myspace profile if you want to listen. The file was too big for NG. Thanks again!

Great concepts, But wanted a bit more variety.

Some very interesting stuff.

2:10

I really dig the melody behind everything, and the glitchy noise on the percussive tracks are delicous..

However.. If your going to make it ugly.. Give it more variety man! i wanted to hear some sick fast panning on the drums, with some loud spurts of noise and feedback filtering in and out! maybe try to slow the heavy ones really down and do lots of quieter cuts to count the speed of everything. And mix it WITH the other kit to make the song feel a bit more together.

Reminds me of passenger of shit / speedranch or old school venetian snares but with a smooth acoustic kit that breaks it down.

Pretty slick man, keep making music.

Audix responds:

I kind of tried adding more screechy noises, but i could find the right ones, Ill probably remix it later, more glitchy, with more random noise and filters.

stop using amen breaks people.

Pretty damn good man. There is some really good with this, And some really bad with this too.

My creative critique?

the good:

I REALLY got into the groove around 1:15 when the smoother drums came in.
I dug the shit out of the groovy synth line and that really low bassy organ sound. It was almost autechre-esk with its construction. The breakdown/chorus at 3:00 was genius too, it fit really well. But I think it could have a bit more thickness in the percussive tracks.

the bad:

everything after 1:10 was the redeeming factor, because I'm really not feeling the amen break in the beginning. This song sounded so unique aside from the loop in the beginning. My first impression was just "oh another half-assed breakcore loop for 3 minutes" but then I completely came around after that. And you have to remember... The first minute of your music can be crucial for your listeners, If someone gets bored after the first bit, Chances are they won't care to check out the rest.

My advice?

SO MANY GOOD things about this song, But the arrangement and intro are dragging down its potential. This could be one of my favorite tracks, But only 2/3 or the track are good.

I suggest dropping intro. you have the talent to have a very unique sound, that will set you apart, but you lost that when you used the most recycled drum loop of all time. Don't allow someone to throw your talent into the "frequent amen-break user bin" Honestly there is probably 10,000 albums out there all using the amen break, its had its use. anything you could do with it has been done, and done better by someone else.

-one more thing....

I wouldn't be writing this if I didn't think you had the talent to make an IDM masterpiece. Your synth use if very original and the melodies are hypnotic. The beats work great, have a few flaws but still enough that I can chill out too.

this song was actually good enough to get me to write this long-ass review, so remember that :P

Mexican-Dessert-Pie responds:

Thank you very much for expressing your opinion of my song.
Yess I do know that dnb loop is ridiculously familiar but I couldn't help myself I've been trying to make some fast pace stuff but lack the knowledge to make my own Dnb. or maybe I"m just not using the right program when it comes to that.
but thank you I'm not sure but I may be taking a break from making music the usual route and try something more in the free style. Or simply something that isn't IDM. When I'm ready I'll comeback though. Thank you

Lush pads and deliciously snappy percussion

I really like the pads the most, The amen break is a very welcome intro, but it gets a little repetitive and I started to loose interest after the first breakdown with the guitary instrument.

I think the drums could be a little bit louder, and they could fit in more. I would recommend maybe putting a compressor or different type of stereo equalizer on yoru percussion tracks to make them sound fuller and more heavy.

The drum patterns themselves are great, reminds me of old school venetian snares or shitmat.

Also - You shouldn't drop the synth out when the drums come in, But rather make a really slick drum glitch to fade in on to take the listener by surprise and hold their attention.

Overall its a pretty sweet track with amazing ideas, but I think they could have a bit more polish on them.

Idiosyncratic responds:

Thanks for an honest review; it's nice to have one for a change. I did have a lot more ideas for this track, but I, for whatever reason, didn't implement them. Now what do you mean by a "really slick drum glitch to fade in on to take the listener by surprise"?

PM an explanation.

hypnotically nostalgic and tight.

Much respect, this is a nice piece of work. Im loving the 8-bit sound.

Only giving a 9 though, because it wasn't based on your original composition.

Props man.

Parlux responds:

yeah thanks hell a 9 is good too i don't mind
